Cyber threats hover over Massachusetts, prompting questions of mandated standards

The growing threat of cyberattacks not only poses a threat to customers of big box stores and mobile carriers, but also U.S. cities and towns, including those in Massachusetts. About 50% of ransomware are focused on municipal governments, Geoffrey Beckwith, executive director and CEO of the Massachusetts Municipal Association, told lawmakers Wednesday.
