For Mass General Brigham’s consolidation, the hardest work is still to come

As Mass General Brigham undergoes the most forceful integration effort in its 27 years, the system is already seeing growing pains from the process. Yet the next steps, which will try and bring together the clinical operations at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, promise to be the most challenging yet. Experts say the work involve combining service lines overseen by prominent doctors who have long operated their own territories autonomously.
