Headcount at GateHouse’s New England dailies has shrunk 20% this year

Even as top executives at GateHouse Media’s parent company have been negotiating the terms of a merger with Gannett Co., GateHouse has also been cutting headcount: 20% of newsroom employees at its 10 daily newspapers in New England have been affected. The company called the moves a "reallocation" of resources, not a reduction.
