UMass Boston proposes student-debt plan at federal education hearing

UMass Boston has partnered with the higher-ed research firm Hildreth Institute to pilot a lower cost, no interest, lifetime repayment plan for college debt. Bob Hildreth, founder of the Hildreth Institute, and UMass Boston Chancellor Marcelo Suárez-Orozco laid out details of the partnership during a public hearing with the U.S. Department of Education on Monday. The proposed repayment plan would apply the principles of pension funds to student loan debt.
