Boston voters bring back elected school committee, city budget process overhaul

Boston elected officials are poised to wield a greater power of the purse — with voters on Tuesday supporting a binding ballot question to overhaul the way city councilors and the mayor negotiate the budget process. Voters also passed a nonbinding referendum pressing city officials to bring back an elected School Committee, rejecting the current system of a mayoral-appointed board.
