The wealthiest ZIP codes in Massachusetts — ranked and revealed
The list is ranked by American City Business Journals’ Wealth Index. Editor’s Note: The Business Journals evaluated almost 33,200 ZIP codes to compile its new wealth index, which is focused on the concentration of wealth in these areas. The rankings are derived from a weighted calculation that relies on multiple datapoints and demographics. Consideration is given to population density as well as income, home equity, estimated savings and poverty rates to identify ZIP codes with the greatest concentrations of wealth per capita. About the List: Information on The List was obtained from the five-year version of the Census Bureau’s 2023 American Community Survey and the Zillow Home Value Index for May 2025. ZIP codes with populations less than 1,000 or a land area of less than 0.5 square miles are not included. Areas without complete data also were removed. About 21,900 ZIP codes met these criteria. The Boston Business Journal’s local rankings include only ZIP codes within Massachusetts. BBJ further limited the rankings to ZIP codes that had a minimum threshold of $65K for per-capita income to eliminate ZIPs with high population density but otherwise low income levels and relatively high poverty rates. The online version of this ranking expands beyond what appears in print; another 106 ZIP codes are included in our digital rankings, in addition to the 25 featured in this week’s print edition. This week’s List is part of a shift in our research methodology and philosophy in 2025, one that will emphasize more data and context for readers while better coordinating the resources available to us and our 46 sister publications under the American City Business Journals flag. We anticipate this effort will identify thousands of new local records — and cumulatively, tens of thousands of new businesses across ACBJ’s footprint — this year alone.
