Accounting Director – SOX Oversight

We are supporting a top-tier asset management organization on a search for a Director-level leader within its Asset Management & Cash Office. This role sits in a highly visible governance function responsible for financial statement oversight, SOX compliance, and fiduciary support across a broad investment platform.

The position offers a unique blend of technical accounting, regulatory oversight, and senior stakeholder interaction, with regular exposure to executive leadership and fund governance bodies.

Overview

This Director will provide oversight (not preparation) across the funds’ financial reporting and internal controls environment, with a strong focus on SOX 404, disclosure governance, and service provider oversight.

Key responsibilities include:

• Senior-level oversight of the fund financial statement and disclosure process
• Ownership of key aspects of the SOX compliance framework, including monitoring, issue resolution, and enhancement
• Evaluation of new products, investment strategies, and regulatory developments, and their impact on reporting and controls
• Acting as a primary point of contact for auditors, fund administrators, and internal business partners
• Preparing clear, concise materials for executive leadership and Boards
• Serving as a trusted advisor on mutual fund accounting, controls, and governance matters
• Leading, mentoring, and developing experienced managers within the group

Ideal Profile

• CPA strongly preferred (MBA a plus)
• Extensive experience across public accounting and/or asset management
• Strong background in mutual fund accounting, financial reporting, or fund oversight
• Deep knowledge of SOX 404 and internal control environments
• Comfortable operating in a highly regulated, complex organization
• Polished communicator with the ability to distill complex topics for senior audiences
• Collaborative leadership style with sound judgment and discretion
