Investment Valuation Associate – Leading PE/PC Firm
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Workspace Type: On-site
Base Salary: $90,000 - $100,000
We’re looking for an Investment Valuation Associate to join the portfolio finance team within a highly regarded global private investment firm. The firm has a multi-decade track record investing behind high-growth companies and manages tens of billions of dollars across private market strategies.
This role sits at the intersection of investment valuation, portfolio analytics, data, and technology. The Associate will work closely with experienced finance leaders and investment professionals across the firm, taking meaningful ownership of quarterly valuations, portfolio company reporting, investor and regulatory deliverables, and analysis used by senior stakeholders.
What makes the opportunity particularly compelling is the scope beyond traditional valuation work. The team is actively investing in better data infrastructure, automation, and AI-enabled tools, and this person will have the opportunity to help build solutions that improve how portfolio information is collected, analyzed, and presented. That could range from automating complex Excel workflows to developing dashboards and lightweight internal applications using tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Anaplan, Chronograph, or similar platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Quarterly valuations: Own key components of the quarterly portfolio valuation process, including valuation calculations, financial analysis, coordination with investment professionals, and preparation of materials for senior review and investment committees.
- Portfolio monitoring and analytics: Track operating and financial performance across portfolio companies and maintain the data used to evaluate trends, performance, and investment outcomes.
- Management and investor reporting: Prepare recurring portfolio reporting for internal leadership, investors, regulatory requirements, fundraising activity, and other external stakeholders.
- Financial modeling: Build and review sophisticated Excel models involving private company valuations, scenario analysis, cap tables, equity waterfalls, dilution, liquidation preferences, and value allocation.
- Data and reporting infrastructure: Maintain and improve portfolio databases, dashboards, reporting tools, and processes used across the finance organization.
- AI and automation: Identify manual or inefficient workflows and build practical tools that improve data quality, automate repetitive work, and make information easier to analyze.
- Cross-functional partnership: Work closely with Investment, Finance, Compliance, Operations, Investor Relations, and other teams on recurring reporting and strategic projects.
Qualifications
- Relevant experience within private equity, investment banking, public accounting, a hedge fund, alternative asset management, or another analytically rigorous financial environment
- Strong financial analysis, accounting, valuation, or investment fundamentals
- Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling, complex formulas, pivot tables, scenario analysis, dashboards, and spreadsheet auditing
- Understanding of private company valuation and private equity economics; exposure to cap tables, preferred equity, liquidation preferences, waterfalls, or similar investment structures is highly valuable
- Finance, accounting, economics, business, or another quantitative discipline
