Director of Finance And Accounting
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Workspace Type: Hybrid
Base Salary: $165,000 - $200,000
This is a Finance Director opportunity within the technology-focused private equity platform of a leading global alternative investment firm. The search is being run at the Director level, but the team is also open to strong Manager-level candidates depending on experience and overall background.
The strategy invests in growing technology businesses across application software, infrastructure/cybersecurity, healthcare IT, fintech/payments, and other technology sectors through control buyouts, growth investments, tactical opportunities, and investments alongside other private market strategies.
The position has broad ownership across fund and SPV finance, portfolio valuations, investor reporting, financial analysis, investment operations, and third-party service provider oversight. The role reports into senior global Private Equity Finance leadership, oversees junior team members, and works closely with investment professionals, Investor Relations, Legal, Tax, auditors, fund administrators, and senior leadership.
This is significantly broader than a traditional fund accounting or controllership role. Much of the underlying accounting production is handled by a third-party fund administrator, allowing the internal Finance team to focus on oversight, portfolio analysis, valuations, investor activity, fund operations, and direct partnership with the investment team.
Responsibilities:
- Fund Finance & Reporting: Oversee quarterly NAVs, financial statements, management fees, carried interest, investor reporting, cash activity, fund flows, and other recurring fund/SPV finance processes
- Portfolio Valuations & Analytics: Partner with investment professionals on quarterly portfolio company valuations, review company financials and operating trends, and prepare materials for portfolio reviews and Valuation Committee discussions
- Fund Administration & Audit: Manage third-party fund administrator relationships, review work product, lead annual audits, and coordinate with external auditors and internal stakeholders
- Investor Relations & Fund Activity: Support LP requests, due diligence, fundraising materials, investor communications, and analysis of fund activity against partnership agreements
- Leadership & Process Improvement: Manage and develop junior team members while driving automation, data analytics, reporting improvements, stronger controls, and more scalable workflows
Qualifications:
- Experience within private equity, asset management, investment management, fund finance, valuation, fund administration, or public accounting
- Strong exposure to alternative investments, investment funds, private companies, or other private market structures
- Solid understanding of financial statements, fund reporting, investment accounting, valuations, or portfolio company analysis
- Big 4/public accounting professionals with Asset & Wealth Management or alternative investment experience are encouraged to apply
- Leadership or team development experience
- Strong Excel, analytical, and technology skills with an interest in automation and AI-enabled finance tools
- Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA, CFA, or Master’s degree preferred
